Day 6

Monday May 7,2001

We say good bye to Jackson Hole and our nice motel and are heading North west to West Yellowstone.
Anyone going to Jackson Hole we recomment the Best Western.
The weather is cold but sunny. We saw our first cowboy today riding the range. He looked like he was checking his cattle. This is horse country. It seems like everyone has them. I wonder if they use them on the golf courses instead of carts. Instead of sand traps they have little poop traps. I guess they must have to carry a poop wedge.

I see the sign, must be were getting close. West Yellowstone is about 5 miles north of Idaho in Montana, but as soon as you enter Yellowstone park your back in Wyoming.

Are we lucking out. Anyone that wants to come out here needs to do it in May cause no one is here.
Got a room in a new Fairfeild Inn. I doubt that there are 25 people staying here now. I talked them down for this suite for 59 a night. It includes breakfest, has a indoor pool and fitness center, has microwave and frig. What a deal. Planning on staying here next 3 nights.
Found a short cut and got over here in about 2.5 hrs so we got a quick lunch and decided to go into the park this afternoon.

Yellowstone National Park

Today we ventured into the park and went south to Old Faithful,
then returned to West Yellowstone.

Do you know how many years I have waited to see this sign. I can't believe we're really here at last.

Prilly was hollaring at me a couple of days ago about getting too close to the buffalo.
She took this picture. Since there are lots of buffalo here we will have to see who can get closer.

Mama and Papa Elk sharing a small Island with Mr. & Mrs. Goose.................

Firehole Falls ..............

Entering Lower Geyser Basin

It's nice and warm next to this hot spring.

The mud pits. Wouldn't want to wade in this stuff.

Grand Prismatic Spring
Thousands of gallons of boiling water flowing into the river.

Jacuzzi anyone ? The water is a little warm about, 300 degrees.

Ok, this is Old Faithful. It used to go off every hour but now it goes off once every 80 to 90 min.
I think they need to change the name to Old Unfaithful.

Now for the pic of the day !
Did not want to reduce this one down. It was too good. I took the picture and it is real.

What a shot !

There, let's see Prilly get this close. I'm so close I can smell his breath.......

We took about 100 pictures today. We saw more wildlife in 5 hrs than in a lifetime. The buffalo are as thick as flies. It must have been this way before white men came and slaughtered them. We saw 2 gray wolves, a young bald eagle, and hundreds of elk.
 More Yellowstone tomorow.
See Ya tomorrow partner.

Love Ralph & Prilly
